COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Two people are dead after a shooting at a home near an elementary school.
According to the Columbus police radio, officers went to the 400 block of South Hampton Road around 3:21 p.m. after a report of a shooting.
Two people, described as older adults, were found unresponsive in the home by a family member and were later pronounced dead at the scene by medics. Columbus police said a firearm was found inside near one of the deceased, and both suffered gunshot wounds.
Sgt. Joe Albert with the Public Information Unit said it is too early to tell if they are victims of a homicide or if this was a murder suicide.
“I can tell you that the individual who found them appears to be a family member of one of the victims,” said Sgt. Albert. “They said that they had not heard from the victim in a couple of days, so they came to check on them, and that’s who located the bodies inside.”
A woman who lives two doors down from the involved home said she saw the man who lives there yesterday.
“Really sad honestly, because kept to himself. Real nice,” said Kristie Roberts. “Any time we’re walking the neighborhood, he always says hi, how are you guys doing? Gave the kids bikes every time he found bikes.”
Robert said she saw police at the home recently, but did not notice anything else abnormal.
“I’m praying for the family,” she said.
