SALISBURY, N.C. — Two officers were injured while breaking up a fight at the Cheerwine Festival on Saturday, Salisbury investigators said.
Officers working security at the event responded to a reported fight on Saturday. Salisbury Police and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office each arrived shortly and saw a group of five to 10 juveniles in a brawl. Officers were able to stop the fight, but one deputy and one Salisbury officer were injured during the incident.
The Salisbury officer was taken to Novant Hospital with a severe concussion, while the Rowan County deputy suffered a fractured hip. He remains hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.
All of the juveniles involved in the fight were detained and taken to the Salisbury Police Department. Secure custody orders against them were denied, and all of the juveniles were released to their parents, officials said.
