CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at a Target in east Charlotte earlier this week, police say.
The incident happened at the Target store on Albemarle Road on Wednesday afternoon. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report says the victim didn’t know her attacker. The man is accused of “forcibly fondling” the child before running off. CMPD hasn’t released any suspect information or announced any arrests in connection with the case.
Neighbors told WCNC Charlotte that they’re shocked about the incident; however, some people said they aren’t surprised, given the area.
“The area is not good. Before it was, but not anymore,” one resident said. “You’re not safe anywhere anymore.”
Another person said more needs to be done to “put a stop it,” adding that cameras in the parking lot could be a solution. Target hasn’t responded to WCNC Charlotte’s request for a comment on the situation.
