Meck Mile returns May 10, offering a community run and spectating experience while supporting hurricane relief in Western North Carolina.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The second annual Meck Mile event returns to Memorial Stadium on May 10, offering Charlotte runners multiple ways to participate while supporting hurricane relief efforts for Western North Carolina communities.

“It’s really built for everyone in the community to come out and enjoy,” Miller Yoho, of the Charlotte Sports Foundation, which organizes the event, explained.

The expanded event now includes opportunities for both casual participants and spectators to enjoy athletic competition.

Organizers have transformed this year’s event into what they call a “Run for Everyone,” with a particular emphasis on creating an engaging atmosphere for those who prefer to watch rather than participate.

“We really, really focused on creating a spectator atmosphere, and what people can do is now come out and see professional athletes run the course,” Yoho explained.

The event will feature professional runners competing for a $20,000 prize, but the new “Run for Relief” component aims to direct community support toward areas still recovering from Hurricane Helene.

“Eight marathoners will be on the course for four hours, and people can donate based on the amount of miles they complete,” Yoho said. “We could not be more excited and appreciative of these people to run so far, but we think it’s a really fun way and an impactful way to help our neighbors up in the western part of the state.”

The charity component gives participants an opportunity to contribute meaningfully while enjoying the community fitness event.

The event is scheduled for May 10. For more information on registration, click here.
