The Charlotte skyline welcomes a new addition this Sunday as Wells Fargo prepares to install signage on one of the city’s most recognizable buildings.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte skyline will welcome a new addition this Sunday as Wells Fargo prepares to install its corporate signage atop one of the city’s most recognizable buildings.

The financial institution will place its sign on the former Duke Energy building at 550 South Tryon Street, a landmark structure in Uptown Charlotte.

When the bank proposed the signage to city officials in 2023, Wells Fargo representatives emphasized that the new sign and enhanced lighting features are components of a broader initiative to strengthen community connections.

This isn’t the first time corporate branding has transformed Charlotte’s skyline. In 2020, Truist’s decision to rebrand the historic Hearst Tower generated mixed reactions from local residents and urban planning advocates.

Beyond the new signage, Wells Fargo plans significant upgrades to the LED lighting system on the tower’s sides and top. These enhancements will expand the capabilities of the Wells Fargo Lights program, which illuminates the building in various colors to recognize different causes, programs, and community events throughout the year.

The signage installation and lighting improvements are funded as part of Wells Fargo’s $500 million “employee experience investment” initiative, according to company officials.

Charlotte residents and visitors can witness the skyline’s transformation beginning this Sunday.
