How the fire started wasn’t immediately clear.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crews worked to extinguish a fire at a north Charlotte grocery store late Saturday night.

Charlotte Fire first confirmed it was responding to a fire at a commercial building along Davis Lake Parkway around 9:20 p.m., confirming it was initially a two-alarm fire. The agency later said it had struck a third alarm.

A WCNC Charlotte photojournalist confirmed the scene was centered on the Harris Teeter, located inside of a shopping center. Crews were focused on one side of the store to the left of the entrance.

At the scene, crews said it took them about 90 minutes with 90 firefighters working to douse the flames. No civilians or firefighters were hurt.

Crews also said the store faced significant fire and water damage inside.

A cause for the fire had not been determined as of publication. WCNC Charlotte has asked Harris Teeter for further comment. This article will be updated as new information is made available.
