The team with the No. 1 pick is expected to draft Duke standout Cooper Flagg.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets were given the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft in Monday’s draft lottery. The Dallas Mavericks won the top pick.
The Hornets finished the 2024-25 season with a 19-63 record, which is the third worst in the NBA. Only the Utah Jazz (17-65) and Washington Wizards (18-64) posted worse records.
Charlotte’s record gave the Hornets a 14% chance to land the top pick, even with the Jazz and Wizards. The Hornets had a 52% chance of landing a top-four pick. The Jazz and Wizards moved down to the fifth and sixth picks, respectively.
Dallas, which won the draft lottery, had a 1.8% chance at the top spot.
The Hornets have only received the top pick one time (1991). Charlotte has participated in the draft lottery in nine straight seasons and has been a bottom-four team three straight years. Only three times during that nine-year span have the Hornets won a top-four pick, including in 2025.
All signs point to Duke standout Cooper Flagg being taken with the No. 1 pick in June’s draft. Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, VJ Edgecombe, Jeremiah Fears, and Tre Johnson are other players on the board that could be available for the Hornets with the No. 4 pick.
