Broncos to play New York Jets in London this fall

The Broncos are headed back across the Atlantic.

Sean Payton’s team will travel to London in Week 6 of the upcoming season for a road game against the New York Jets. The game is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Denver time on Oct. 12 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will be broadcast on NFL Network. The NFL  announced the matchup Tuesday morning while unveiling its entire seven-game international slate for the 2025 season.

The Jets have known since earlier this year that they’d be a designated home team for a game at Tottenham. Now Denver knows it’s going back to the United Kingdom for the second time in the past four seasons.

The Broncos most recently played in London in 2022, beating Jacksonville 21-17 after former quarterback Russell Wilson engineered a couple of second-half touchdown drives.

Interestingly enough, the scoring in that game opened with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence to tight end Evan Engram.

Engram, of course, signed a two-year contract with the Broncos earlier this spring.

“After having such a wonderful experience in London a few years ago, we can’t wait to return to the United Kingdom to engage with such passionate fans and build on the Broncos’ proud international history,” team president Damani Leech said in a statement.

It’s the fourth time overall Denver’s played in London, following the game in 2022, a regular-season game in 2010 and an old-school American Bowl exhibition in 1987.

This will be the first time Denver’s played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Previously, they’ve played at Wembley Stadium.

Denver coach Sean Payton has previously indicated that he likes to spend the entire week overseas leading up to an international game. Wednesday evening will provide more context about what that trip looks like for the Broncos. Teams typically either want a home game before making the long trip, or they want a road game on the East Coast to cut down on travel time.

Denver has two other East Coast road games on the docket in Washington and Philadelphia. The next question, then, is whether the Broncos’ bye week will indeed come Week 7. Teams typically, but not always, ask for their bye week to follow an international game.

The Broncos made it clear to the NFL that they were willing to play internationally this fall and also that their first choice was to play in Berlin, Germany, against Indianapolis.

“Sean really vocalized his interest in playing in Germany,” Leech said earlier this spring. “I think some of that goes back to, he likes to travel. I think he likes the team being alone-ish together and what that does from a culture standpoint with the team. He likes the idea of being first and playing in a city like Berlin for the first time in the NFL regular season.”

Instead of Denver getting that game, though, it went to Atlanta. The Falcons, like the Colts, have Germany as an international home market. Denver’s international home market is Mexico. Indianapolis, a source told The Post, also made clear it wanted to play the Broncos at home rather than in Germany.

The Broncos now have two of their 2025 games announced. They’re playing at Kansas City on Christmas Night in Week 17.
