A Littleton man who taught at a Douglas County School District middle school was arrested Monday and charged with child sex assault, according to the sheriff’s office.
David Feil, 49, was arrested Monday on a warrant for two counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a Class 3 felony, according to court records.
Feil was hired by the Douglas County School District in 2014 as an educational assistant at Pine Lane Elementary School, said Paula Hans, a spokesperson for the school district. Feil stayed in that position for one year before becoming a short-term substitute teacher at various locations across the district.
He was hired at Roxborough Intermediate School near Littleton in 2015 as an educational assistant, became a classroom teacher at that school in 2017 and has remained there since, she said.
“(Feil) is on administrative leave pending investigation,” Roxborough Intermediate’s principal, Meghan Ofer, wrote in an email to parents Tuesday. “Due to the ongoing investigation and the sensitive nature of the allegations, further details cannot be released.”
A long-term substitute teacher will replace Feil in the classroom through the end of the year, Ofer said in the email.
According to court records, the assault occurred on Aug. 1, 2021, after Feil had taken on his full-time role as a sixth-grade teacher at Roxborough Intermediate.
The 49-year-old is being held in the Douglas County Detention Facility on a $50,000 cash or surety bond, according to court records. He has not yet posted bail and is next scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court for a hearing on June 6, court records show.
