The hunt for a fugitive who shot at deputies in the Tenino area, piercing a deputy’s vehicle last Thursday, is over, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 8, an SUV associated with Damien Madison, a 10-time felon who is wanted for outstanding warrants, was spotted by a deputy but sped away after initially pulling over.

Madison was a passenger in the SUV that led deputies on a chase out of Tenino along Highway 507. His girlfriend was behind the wheel.

During the chase, Madison deliberately tossed items at the deputy, trying to make the car crash, according to the TCSO. Those items included a large toolbox, a motorcycle helmet, and even a chainsaw.

Madison eventually fired an AR-15 at deputies, piercing one of the cars several times and bringing it to a halt. A deputy avoided being hit by less than a foot. He also threw a gun from the SUV.

The tense chase and confrontation was captured on body cam video.

The SUV finally stopped and let Madison out. He fled into the woods.

On Tuesday afternoon “the FBI Criminal Apprehension Team and other agents took Damien and his mother into custody after coordinating a Grappler deployment on their vehicle near the Nevada-California state line with air support overhead,” Thurston County Sheriff Derrick Sanders said on his Facebook page.
