Local entrepreneurs capitalize on golf tournament’s economic impact.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  The PGA Championship teed off shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday at Quail Hollow Club, bringing not just world-class golf to Charlotte but also a significant economic boost to local businesses.

The 704 Shop is among many local businesses benefiting from thousands of golf enthusiasts visiting the Queen City for the tournament.

“To partner with the PGA for a major tournament such as the PGA Championship is a big catalyst,” said Chris Moxley, owner of 704 Shop.

Moxley expressed excitement about partnering with the PGA again this year at Quail Hollow. Inside the merchandise shop, his business has contributed numerous Charlotte-branded items.

“We’re at this point, really, just to help people understand the gravity of the brand, talk to them about who we are as a brand, particularly those that might be in town from out of our market,” Moxley explained.

Tournament-themed shirts and hats have been selling rapidly, making this event one of the biggest business boosters on 704 Shop’s calendar. The PGA continues to demonstrate its commitment to “supporting local” through such partnerships.

“It’s the tip of the iceberg for us, because even though we’re local, we can design for any major tournament anywhere,” Moxley said. “But you start where you are, and you use where you are to get to where you’re going. So we’re excited about the opportunities in front of us as well.”

Beyond the immediate financial gains, Moxley noted that the marketing exposure and brand awareness are equally valuable benefits. Seeing their merchandise alongside major brands like Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour gives his team a sense of accomplishment when the tournament comes to Charlotte.
