Wet weather could carry on in Massachusetts Friday afternoon, but forecasters warn that more severe storms, including potential tornadoes, could hit the region on Saturday.

Friday should start with low clouds and fog before clouds start to break up as early as 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Sunshine should be present across most of the state before instability builds up in Western Massachusetts, where cloud cover should be present all day.

A wet air mass should then enter the region and increase cloud cover, forecasters said. Scattered showers are expected to appear across Western and Central Massachusetts from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a few stray showers in northeastern Massachusetts.

In this timeframe, forecasters warn that dangerous winds and large hail could fall, according to a weather service post on X.

Daytime highs are expected to be in the mid- to high 70s, with Springfield reaching 80 degrees, forecasters said.

After 8 p.m. Friday, the rest of the night going well into Saturday morning should see dry conditions, but forecasters anticipate severe storms emerging in the afternoon. Temperatures should be similar to those on Friday, in the high 70s, near 80 degrees.

This next round of wet weather is expected to move from Western Massachusetts to the east, between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., forecasters said. Areas should see a 3-4-hour timeframe of rain and storm conditions.

Severe weather could bring damaging winds and hail, but forecasters warned on X that there is an isolated chance for tornadoes across parts of the state. Berkshire County has the biggest risk of seeing heavy winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

But by Saturday night, a cold front should leave conditions cooler going into Sunday, when rain is expected to be minimal in the afternoon, forecasters said. Chances of more rain that day are low across Springfield, Worcester and Boston at 30%.

Skies should clear up going into next week, with mostly sunny skies expected across the state, forecasters said. The next round of possible showers is not likely to return until Wednesday night.
