One person was killed during a shooting Friday, May 16 at a gym in Las Vegas, Nevada, and at least three other people were injured. The suspect was shot by police and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a press release that they responded to reports of shots being fired at 1:34 p.m. in a business on North Rainbow Boulevard. Local news outlets identified the business as Las Vegas Athletic Club.

Officers identified a suspect standing at the door of the athletic club with a firearm, the press release said. When the suspect ran out the door, officers fired at him. The suspect was taken into custody and given aid, police said.

One victim, who was dead, was found inside the gym. Two other people were transported to the hospital, one in “critical condition” and the other suffering non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

While investigating, authorities learned a third person took themselves to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Las Vegas Athletic Clubs wrote on X that the location where the shooting happened is temporarily closed, and that the business is supporting the police investigation.

“We are heartbroken by the tragedy that occurred today at our Northwest club,” Las Vegas Athletic Clubs said. “Our prayers are with the victims, their families, our members and our team.”

The gym later wrote that one of its employees, Edgar Quinonez, was the victim who died in the shooting.

“Edgar was a beloved part of the LVAC family for 15 years,” Las Vegas Athletic Clubs wrote on Facebook. “We are praying for Edgar’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.”

In the post, Las Vegas Athletic Clubs said Quinonez was a “source of kindness, dedication and positivity.”

“His presence touched the lives of so many members and teammates, and his impact will never be forgotten,” the post said.

The police department said on Friday, May 16 that the identity of the officers involved will be released after 48 hours.
