JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated during the month of May, and to kick off the festivities, News4JAX Reporter and Anchor John Asebes spent a full day embracing the vibrant AAPI culture.

Visit Jacksonville put out a weekend itinerary with restaurants, shops and other fun activities to enjoy AAPI Heritage Month.

Here’s how the day went:

After starting our day at the beach, we headed to Karai Ramen Bistro for a steaming bowl of delicious ramen, crafted with traditional Japanese ingredients. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the day ahead.

Next, we made our way to Beach Bowl in Jacksonville Beach. Rolling a few frames was a blast, and it was great to enjoy some friendly competition. Later, we stopped by The Oaxaca Club for a refreshing cocktail, where we learned about the fascinating connection between Filipino sailors and mezcal, a tradition brought to Mexico during the Spanish galleon trade.

That’s just a taste of our adventure, and there’s so much more waiting for you to discover in Jacksonville.

For more ideas, check out the full itinerary on Visit Jacksonville.
