In this episode of “Eat Like a Local”, the crew returns to Galveston to learn how fresh caught Gulf seafood makes it from the dock to your plate.

Host Chris Shepherd’s first stop is at Katie’s Seafood Market where he meets local fisherman Buddy Guindon who owns the market and Katie’s Seafood House right next door.

As the pair watch a crew unload the latest catch of American red snapper, Buddy explains the importance of buying Gulf seafood. It’s not just about the superior taste of fresh product; it also sustains the local fisherman who work along the Gulf coast.

After his chat with Buddy, Chris heads next door to Katie’s Seafood House where some of the days fresh catch goes directly from the dock to the kitchen.

As Chris points out, seafood doesn’t get fresher than this – and it shows. Chris tries everything from the ceviche to the sizzling grouper platter and gambas al ajillo. They’re all winners – proving (Gulf) fresh is best when it comes to seafood.

Katie’s Seafood Market not only sources its sister restaurant, it also serves as a retail market for local shoppers and a distributor to restaurants throughout Galveston and Houston. Chris gets a tip that some of Katie’s fresh caught fish is headed to another local spot – Fish Taco Company. The team there is turning out a unique spin on scratch made tacos. Chris can’t help but try the Korean and Vietnamese-inspired tacos, plus one that’s a twist on a fast-food favorite taken to the next level with fresh Gulf shrimp.

Chris also discovers a hidden gem on the Fish Company Taco menu that has nothing to do with seafood. Watch the full episode to see what it is!

“Eat Like a Local with Chris Shepherd” is your guide to the best food in Houston. Watch new episodes Saturdays at 10 a.m. on KPRC 2.
