Columbus, Ohio (WSYX) — Blendon Township Officer Connor Grubb appeared in court Wednesday morning, where motion hearings and trial dates were set.
Jury selection is set to begin on Oct. 30 with opening arguments likely to begin on Nov. 3.
Grubb is charged with four counts of felonious assault, four counts of murder and two counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the August 2023 deadly shooting of 21-year-old Ta’Kiya Young.
Young was allegedly seen stealing multiple bottles of liquor from a Kroger store on Sunbury Road. When officers responded, Young reportedly refused to exit her vehicle.
Body camera footage from the scene shows Young slowly starting to drive while Grubb stood in front of her car. Grubb then fired his weapon, shooting through Young’s windshield. At the time of the shooting, Young was pregnant.
Young’s grandmother, Nadine Young spoke to the judge on Wednesday.
“We are going through quite a bit,” Young said. “I have custody of her two little boys and it’s just, knowing that he is still getting compensated, it hurts to know that. It hurts me and the family the babies. We are out here struggling and he is still just living life and she is gone and her daughter is gone. I just need you all to know that.”
Following the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s probe into the shooting, the findings were forwarded to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. A special prosecutor from Montgomery County has been appointed to further investigate and present the case to a grand jury.
