The Broncos preseason opener is officially set.
Denver will kick off its exhibition slate at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The game is set for broadcast on 9News.
Sean Payton’s team is expected to partake in a joint practice against Kyle Shanahan’s team while in the Bay Area, which would most likely slot in Thursday, Aug. 7. That would mean Denver has joint practices each of its first two preseason game weeks.
There are plenty of familiar faces on each side, of course, from Shanahan, 49ers general manager John Lynch and Highlands Ranch native and standout running back Christian McCaffrey, to new Broncos defensive players Talanoa Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw, who signed with Denver as free agents this spring.
The kickoff announcement finalizes Denver’s preseason slate. It is as follows:
Aug. 9: at San Francisco, 6:30 p.m. (expected joint practice before)
Aug. 16: vs. Arizona, 7:30 p.m. (joint practice Aug. 14)
Aug. 23: at New Orleans, 11 a.m.
The Broncos have not yet announced their training camp schedule, but it will start in late July. The next phase of the Broncos’ offseason is two weeks of organized team activities, which begin Tuesday.
