Johnny Mathis is concluding his historic career with a hefty amount of money to retire with.
The iconic singer played his final show at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, New Jersey, on Sunday.
Mathis, 89, performed several of his classic hits in front of a sold-out crowd, including “Chances Are,” “It’s Not For Me to Say,” and “Misty,” according to New Jersey Stage.
The evening also featured notable celebrities such as Darlene Love, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Valerie Simpson, Gerald Alston, Liz Callaway, Ray Chew, Norm Lewis and Regina Belle.
Today’s Al Roker shared a reel of Mathis’ final performance, in which he called him “the last of the great crooners.”
“One of the greatest practitioners of the #greatamericansongbook tonight was his last concert before retiring,“ Roker wrote. ”What a legacy.”
Mathis wrapped up his run with an estimated net worth of $200 million, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com.
The site noted that Mathis was able to amass his wealth by selling more than 350 million albums as well as his long touring career.
In March, Mathis revealed that he would be retiring from touring due to “age and memory issues.”
“Johnny Mathis and his entire staff send their heartfelt gratitude to all Mathis fans worldwide for your continued love and support of his music,” a post on the singer’s Facebook read at the time. “It’s truly been ‘Wonderful, Wonderful.‘”
Mathis began his career in the 1950s and recorded a variety of hits over the years, including “Misty,” “Chances Are,” “When a Child is Born,” “Wonderful! Wonderful!” and “It’s Not for Me to Say.” He released more than 70 albums, and his “Greatest Hits” collection spent nearly 500 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.
His music remains popular today with holiday tunes like “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride” and “We Need a Little Christmas.”
Mathis was inducted into the Grammys Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy in 2003, according to Billboard. He was also inducted into the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame in 2014.
