JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As part of our Passion 4 Pets event, we’ve been highlighting the incredible work of local shelters and rescue organizations dedicated to giving animals a second chance at life and love.

Wednesday night, we heard from S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue, a nonprofit organization making a big impact in St. Augustine.

Founded in 2008, S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue was born out of a desire to address the needs of overcrowded shelters. The organization’s mission is clear and heartfelt: to rescue animals at risk of euthanasia and place them in loving forever homes. Often, these pets are transported from shelters that are over capacity, giving them a fresh start and a renewed chance at life.

Meet Sampson and Saint

Joining News4JAX was Rebecca from S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue—and two of their adoptable stars, Sampson and Saint.

Saint, a 10-year-old Border Collie-Beagle mix, is the definition of calm and cuddly.

“She’s a lap dog through and through,” Rebecca shared. “Very content to relax on the couch, get treats, and watch TV.”

Then there’s Sampson, a 7-year-old Shepherd mix who’s already a favorite at the shelter.

“He’s just an all-around great family dog—housebroken, loves kids, and always ready to join in on the fun,” said Rebecca. “He’s the perfect balance of active and chill.”

These gentle seniors are a perfect reminder that older pets bring so much love and often come already trained.

Why Senior Pets Matter

While puppies and kittens often get the spotlight, senior pets like Sampson and Saint are equally deserving of homes. They may have a few years behind them, but they still have so much to give—loyalty, calm companionship, and endless affection.

Plus, with their personalities already well developed, what you see is what you get. No need for potty training or endless rounds of puppy-proofing.

Ready to Meet Your New Best Friend?

If you’re looking to open your heart and home to a furry companion, S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue might just have your perfect match.

Let’s help these wonderful animals find the forever families they deserve.
