After a quarter century at the company, longtime “SportsCenter” anchor Stan Verrett is leaving ESPN.

As first reported by Front Office Sports, Verrett’s time at ESPN will end “later this summer” after the network declined to renew his contract.

“Our business has changed greatly since I got in. It’s time that I changed along with it,” Verrett wrote on social media. “Fortunately, there are some tremendous opportunities to do that, while remaining in my adopted hometown, Los Angeles, which I love. Stay tuned.”

The move comes shortly after ESPN axed its“SportsCenter” broadcast based in Los Angeles, which starts at 1 a.m. on the East Coast.

That broadcast has been moved to ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. However, Verrett had no plans to move with it.

“My life is in Los Angeles is now. Nothing but gratitude for 25 years of living a dream at ESPN. I’m not retiring,” Verrett wrote on social media. “Really excited about the future and some incredible opportunities. Stay tuned.”

Verrett was a mainstay of ESPN’s late-night broadcast alongside Neil Everett, who left the company in 2023.

Verrett got his start at ESPN back in 2000, working as an anchor for ESPNEWS.
