He was already behind bars for charges related to a separate shooting investigation.
SALISBURY, N.C. — A second suspect has been charged in connection with the February shooting death of an 18-year-old Salisbury man. The suspect was already behind bars for charges in an unrelated shooting investigation.
Jamarion Racel Proffitt has been charged in the February 20 homicide of Emmanuel Houston Jr., the Salisbury Police Department announced Thursday.
Proffitt was already in custody in Rowan County for charges in a separate shooting that happened in January— nearly a month before the shooting that claimed Houston’s life.
Police served the murder warrants on Proffitt while he remained in custody, and he has been placed back into the detention center under no bond for the new charges.
The February 20 shooting unfolded at a home on Tillman Street. Officers discovered Houston Jr. dead from a gunshot wound upon arrival.
This marks the second arrest in the case. In April, police arrested 21-year-old Shykiem Daekwon Verdell as the first suspect connected to Houston’s death. Verdell was arrested by the Lexington Police Department and is currently being held in the Davidson County jail under no bond on first-degree murder charges.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Lt. Casper at (704) 638-5333 or Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
