CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Billy Joel and Sting, two of the most successful and well-known artists in the last 50 years, have canceled their one-night-only performance at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
The music icons were set to join forces to perform in the Queen City on Saturday, May 10, 2025. However, in March, the tour announced eight of its upcoming dates would be rescheduled, including the one in Charlotte. The new Charlotte date was set for July 3, 2026.
Then, on Friday, Billy Joel’s team announced the concert would be canceled all together because of Joel’s recent diagnosis of a brain disorder called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).
“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” Billy Joel’s team wrote on his website. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”
His team expressed Joel’s sincere gratitude to his fans as he works on his treatment.
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel wrote in a statement.
NPH is a condition where cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The condition typically happens in people over the age of 65. Cleveland Clinic said the condition is treatable and even may be reversible in some cases. Treatments typically include putting in a shunt to drain the excess fluid inside the skull.
