More than 900 flights going into or out of Denver International Airport were delayed Sunday and another handful were canceled as thunderstorms swept across Colorado.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for the Denver airport at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, which lasted for an hour. During that time, all outbound flights were indefinitely delayed.

As of 6:15 p.m. Sunday, 956 flights had been delayed and 11 had been canceled at DIA, according to flight tracking software from FlightAware.

United delayed the most flights on Sunday, 285, and another 258 Southwest flights failed to leave the gate on time. Regional airline SkyWest came in third with 241 flight delays.

United also canceled seven flights Sunday, followed by three canceled Frontier flights and one canceled SkyWest flight, according to FlightAware.

Other Sunday delays included 76 Frontier flights, 23 Delta flights, 17 American Airlines flights, 16 Key Lime Air flights and 12 Alaska Airlines flights.

Allegiant Air, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Envoy Air, Southern Airways Express, Contour Airlines, Aer Lingus, Icelandair, Edelweiss Air AG, VivaAerobus and JetBlue all delayed between one and 10 flights.

Flights arriving at DIA on Sunday evening experienced an average of 98-minute delays because of the ongoing thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
