Marcelo Mayer was the Red Sox prospect who got all sorts of attention this past weekend as he was called up for his major league debut Saturday. On Monday night, another minor leaguer got some national love.

On Monday night’s Jeopardy! episode, a clue read: “It’s something many use every day to unlock things online & the nickname of Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon Garcia.” The answer was “password” — a nod to Garcia’s creative nickname of “The Password.” A contestant,

MassLive’s Chris Smith wrote about the origins about the nickname in June 2024. Obviously, it’s a nod to the complicated spelling of a first name that is pronounced (JOES-tin-son), according to the team.

Garcia, a 22-year-old from Venezuela, isn’t just on the map because of his nickname. He was recently promoted to Triple-A Worcester and has hit .417 (10-for-24) with two homers, five doubles and a 1.148 OPS in six games after batting .256 with three homers, 17 RBIs and a .748 OPS in 33 games at Double-A Portland. Garcia was in major league camp this year and is on Boston’s 40-man roster after being selected in November. MassLive ranked him 10th overall in Boston’s system before this season; SoxProspects now has him ranked 13th among Red Sox minor leaguers.

Garcia and his WooSox teammates begin a six-game series at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
