JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A total of 44 cats and dogs were adopted during Winn-Dixie’s Memorial Day Weekend adoption event at The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS), Samantha Ahnen, the Community Engagement Manager at JHS, told News4JAX on Monday.

During the event, hosted on May 24, more than 100 dogs and cats were available for adoption, including some whose adoption fees were waived. The adoption event took place at the JHS Adoption and Education Center located at 8464 Beach Boulevard.

According to a release, Winn-Dixie donated more the $3,000 worth of pet food and supplies to JHS in celebration of National Pet Month. These donations will help support both the animals currently at JHS as well as family pets in our community through our free pet food bank.

“Every pet deserves a loving home and we are proud to team up with the Jacksonville Humane Society during National Pet Month,” said Shawn Sloan, North Florida Regional Vice President for Winn-Dixie. “We know pets are more than just companions – they are a part of the families we serve in our stores each day. We are honored to help make it easier for our neighbors to find their next best friend and give more pets the fresh start they deserve over the Memorial Day weekend.”

This pawsitive news follows Channel 4’s online adoption event on May 21, where we showcased adoptable pets from across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. While many of the featured pets found loving homes, a few are still waiting to be adopted.
