A Randolph Middle School parent is charged in connection with an assault on principal Jennifer Schroeder.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte parent is facing charges for allegedly assaulting two school officials at Randolph Middle School, including a principal who has been suspended with pay, according to court documents obtained by WCNC Charlotte.

Mariah Hector, 33, was charged with two counts of assault on a school employee and second-degree trespass following a disturbance at the school on Water Oak Road.

The alleged attack happened on May 5. Hector went to the school with several family members after her daughter was involved in a fight at the school, according to court documents. A staff member said he asked Hector to leave after she became “very argumentative” with school administrators.

Police say Hector refused to leave and instead pushed past the employee before physically confronting school officials. The arrest report states that Hector pushed Principal Jennifer Schroeder with both hands on her shoulders, forcing her into a wall.

Hector allegedly grabbed area assistant Superintendent Jennifer Dean around the neck and attempted to choke her, according to the police report. Staff members intervened and pulled Hector away from Dean, who had visible injuries around her neck and experienced difficulty breathing.

The incident forced the school into a brief lockdown.

Trinity Nixon, who accompanied Hector to the school, was charged with trespassing. She faces no other charges. Hector was arrested but has been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21.

The parent’s arrest happened weeks before Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed that Schroeder was suspended with pay, though it’s unclear whether her suspension is related to the May 5 incident.

The school has not responded to a request for comment about the incident that led to the parent’s arrest.
