Saturday’s match came days after the black and blue fell to the New York Red Bulls.
TORONTO, ON — Last weekend, Charlotte FC was able to stop a losing skid with a 3-2 home win over Columbus Crew. But on Wednesday, it seemed that the team would spend more time in the L column again as the New York Red Bulls handed them a 4-2 trouncing.
The black and blue, however, got back in the win column. This time, with an unanswered win against Toronto FC.
The first half of the match saw both teams scoreless. Toronto midfielder Deiby Flores got a yellow card, the only main action of note during the first 45 minutes.
Along came the second half. At the 56-minute mark, Charlotte midfielder Pep Biel got a boost from winger/forward Liel Abada to net the first goal of the match. For a while, that seemed to be the only goal that would be added to the tally.
But at the 90-minute mark, striker Patrick Agyemang kicked it in, giving Charlotte two goals.
Toronto FC still had five minutes of stoppage time to respond. But the neighbors up north weren’t able to answer. Charlotte FC won 2-0 and earned back three MLS standing points.
Charlotte FC has a break this coming week, but will be back in action on Saturday, June 14. They’re on the road again to take on the Philadelphia Union. Kickoff is at the usual 7:30 p.m. Eastern time. Since the team is out of town, the club is teaming up with Modelo to host a watch party at Angry Ales, located at 1518 Montford Park Drive in Charlotte. More information is available on the team’s website. While you’ll have to pay your bar tab, the party is free and no ticket is needed to attend.
