10 mass layoffs, 1,052 job losses announced in Ohio in May; see who was impacted

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A total of 1,526 Ohio workers were let go in 11 mass layoffs in May across the state.

These numbers are according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices filed this month to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The announcements include:

Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care announced 474 layoffs on May 29.Crothall Healthcare in Cincinnati announced 239 layoffs, while the West Chester office announced 61 layoffs on May 22.Morrison Healthcare in West Chester announced 55 layoffs and the Cincinnati office announced 201 layoffs on May 22.East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry announced the layoffs of 11 workers on May 15. Oerlikon Balzers Coating USA Inc. in Brunswick announced the layoff of 11 workers on May 15.Navitor, Inc. in Coldwater announced the layoffs of 83 workers on May 15. National Oilwell Varco in Dayton announced the layoffs of 127 workers on May 7.INOAC Exterior Systems in Fremont announced the layoffs of 9 workers on May 7, 3 workers on May 13, one worker on May 14 and two workers on May 19.Kraton in Dover announced layoffs of 91 workers on May 7.United Parcel Service in Middleburg Heights announced layoffs of 98 part-time workers on May 2.Galion Pointe Nursing & Rehab, LLC in Galion announced layoffs of 60 workers on May 1.

What is Ohio’s WARN Act?

(WARN) Act is a law that requires businesses to provide at least 60 days’ written notice before a plant closing or mass layoff, ensuring employees have time to prepare for transitions.

Where do Ohio employers submit WARN notices?

Ohio businesses must send WARN Act notices to Rapid Response Program Administrator Breeyn Handberg at [email protected].
