Police said the victim was walking in the area when he was hit by a vehicle, which drove away.
Police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The crash happened near the driveway entrance to a company.
Later Thursday, there were shattered pieces apparently from the front of a vehicle scattered on the side of Shermer Road.
Javier Valdez saw the scene early Thursday, when he arrived to work in the building behind where the crash happened.
“Probably the guy cross the street or something. Somebody was coming, and they hit him. I don’t know,” Valdez said.

It’s an industrial area, and few people were around at the time of the crash.
Police responded to a 911 call from an employee who happened to be nearby just after 1 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian was apparently long gone.
Police are investigating and looking for video. Though the companies nearby said they have none showing the crash or the vehicle involved.
While the victim has yet to be identified, relatives who preferred not to be identified offered prayers near the scene.
They said they are unaware of why the victim would have been walking there overnight. And those familiar with the area say it’s not particularly dangerous.
“This is a nice neighborhood. You see cars passing by, but slow, nothing crazy,” Valdez said.
Roads reopened in the area about 8 a.m.
No other information regarding the victim or suspect vehicle was released.
