Mirror Indy reporter Emily Hopkins placed in a national journalism contest for their reporting last year.
Hopkins placed third in a government and political reporting category in the National Headliner Awards, which were announced this week. Hopkins was recognized for their reporting on a dark money network, ShotSpotter and misinformation about the Blue Line.
The National Headliners Awards recognizes top journalism across print, photography, broadcast and online. Now in its 91st year, it is one of the country’s oldest and most-established journalism contests.
News of the award comes in the same week that Mirror Indy was named a winner in the 2024 Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism.
That recognition was for “Out of Options,” a three-part investigative series from health reporter Mary Claire Molloy and art director Jenna Watson.
“These awards underscore the talent that makes up the Mirror Indy staff,” said Oseye Boyd, Mirror Indy editor in chief. “And, I know we couldn’t do this without the support of our community.”
Hopkins, Molloy and Watson are also among Mirror Indy’s 20 finalists in the Best in Indiana Journalism Awards organized by the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists. Winners of those contest categories will be announced May 2.
Mirror Indy, a nonprofit newsroom, is funded through grants and donations from individuals, foundations and organizations.
