A Morganton man faces multiple charges after a hit-and-run, including driving while impaired and license revoked.
MORGANTON, N.C. — A Morganton man is facing several charges after a hit-and-run on Friday, according to the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
The department responded to a reported hit-and-run around 3:30 p.m. Friday on South Sterling Street, near the intersection with West Fleming Drive. While officers were heading there, they got a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Shortly after, investigators found a vehicle matching that description in a parking lot on West Fleming Drive. Investigators inspected the vehicle and reviewed surveillance footage, then determined it was the same vehicle involved in the crash. During this, officials learned two people ran away from the area.
Officers ultimately found the suspects on West Fleming Drive near the railroad tracks. Both ran away from officers, but were apprehended after a brief foot chase.
The driver, 34-year-old Victor Gonzales Ramirez of Morganton, was taken into custody and brought to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office. He’s been charged with Driving While Impaired, Driving While License Revoked, Hit and Run, Failure to Reduce Speed.
The second person in the car was a juvenile passenger. It’s not clear if that juvenile is facing any charges.
Authorities said Ramirez already had three pending charges for Driving While Impaired, one of those charges being Habitual DWI. His vehicle was seized as a result of his revoked license status, and he was not issued a bond as he was out on pretrial release at the time of the crash.
He is scheduled to appear in court on June 23.
