CMPD arrests a teen known for crimes like car theft and larceny after a court escape in April.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teen was arrested in connection with multiple crimes including car theft and gun possession following a series of incidents that began in early April.
The 15-year-old, who was already known to police, absconded from a court-ordered placement in Fayetteville on April 1, alongside another “prolific” teen offender from Charlotte, CMPD said. The teen reportedly arranged for a rideshare to return to the Charlotte area with help from a friend.
On the same day, a car was reported stolen in CMPD’s Eastway Division. Two days later, on April 3, the stolen car was recovered in the University Division area, where investigators discovered the teen’s fingerprints inside the car, according to police.
The investigation intensified on April 8, when officers found and arrested the teen as a suspect in a larceny. During the arrest, officers seized a gun from the teen that had been reported stolen from the Central Division just two days earlier.
Eastway Division detectives also seized the teen’s cell phone as evidence.
Further investigation led to the teen being identified as a suspect in an April 6 larceny case. As a result, additional charges were filed, including Attempted Larceny of Motor Vehicle, Breaking or Entering into a Motor Vehicle, and Felony Larceny.
The teen was taken to the Cabarrus County Juvenile Detention Center without incident.
