Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Dallas-Fort Worth

Strong storms with heavy rain and possible flooding are in the forecast for North Texas on Tuesday.

According to the forecast from KXAS-TV (NBC5), rain chances throughout most of the morning will be at 90%. After noon, chances will drop off a bit before falling sharply at 3 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for much of North Texas, which will last until 4 p.m. The eastern part of Dallas County, as well as all of Rockwall County and much of Collin County, was issued a severe thunderstorm warning, which will last until 11:45 a.m. Many parts of North Texas are also under a flood watch Tuesday, and parts of the city of Dallas are under a flood warning.

A tornado watch was also issued for Central and East Texas, with Waco, Houston, Austin and areas near San Antonio included. A tornado warning was issued at about 11 a.m. for the area near Rosebud in Falls County, which is southeast of Waco.

Tarrant and Denton County were also issued a flash flood warning.

According to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, widespread storms are expected, and some of them could be strong to severe.

Main threats from the storms will be strong winds, hail and possible flash flooding, with a minor threat of tornadoes. Between 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected. Some areas could get as much as 5 inches.

Rain and thunderstorms have caused delays at Dallas-area airports, with an average delay of one hour and 16 minutes at D-FW and between 30 to 45 minutes at Love Field.

The flood watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

TUESDAY: 100% chance of showers and thunderstorms, some strong to severe with heavy rain. High: 70. Wind: E 10-15 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Fog or drizzle in the morning, then partly cloudy and mild with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low: 61. High: 80. Wind: SE/NW 5-10 mph.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy and mild with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low: 59. High: 76. Wind: NW 10-15 mph.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy and mild with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low: 59. High: 76. Wind: N 10-15 mph.

SATURDAY: Sun, clouds and mild. Low: 59. High: 78. Wind: N 10-15 mph.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and mild. Low: 57. High: 79. Wind: NE 5-10 mph.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and warm. Low: 59. High: 81. Wind: SE 5-10 mph.

TUESDAY: Sun, clouds and warm. Low: 62. High: 84. Wind: S 10-20 mph.
