Before high school seniors hit the dance floor for their unforgettable prom night, the search for the perfect dress, shoes, and accessories can be daunting—and expensive. But thanks to the efforts of Madelyn Patterson from Gone Mad Productions and Archette Royster, founder of GeNell’s Prom Closet, students can achieve their prom glam without breaking the bank.

Madelyn Patterson explained why Gone Mad Productions decided to support GeNell’s Prom Closet. “There is a gift in giving. It does something to your spirit and your soul and it’s just a good feeling,” Patterson said. “We want to make sure we get this out there for those who may want to go to prom but have not had the opportunity,” she added.

Archette Royster shared the inspiration behind creating GeNell’s Prom Closet– her parents!

“My dad, Gene, he was a tailor, my mom, Nell, was a seamstress, and they intertwined needle and thread and had me, the designer!” Royster explained.

GeNell’s Prom Closet allows teens who might not otherwise be able to afford prom to go “shopping” for free dresses, shoes, handbags, suits, ties and more.

“We want the kids in the rural areas, unhoused kids, kids of terminally ill parents, kids of incarcerated parents to have the same experience everybody else has,” Royster said.

For those inspired by their mission, Royster encouraged there’s still time to contribute for this year’s prom season. For more information, visit their website.

With the help of dedicated volunteers and sponsors like Patterson, GeNell’s Prom Closet continues to make prom dreams a reality for students in need.
