The Keep Pounding Classic will be at Bank of America Stadium on Aug. 22.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the third-straight season, Bank of America Stadium will host high school football games.
This year, Aug. 22 will see a doubleheader that features four of the region’s top programs in the Keep Pounding Classic.
At 4 p.m., Hough will take on South Pointe in a battle between North and South Carolina.
Immediately following that game, West Charlotte will make the quick trip to Uptown to face Grimsley in a battle between 2024 state champions.
For the players, it’s an opportunity to play in an NFL venue for the first time.
“Growing up in Charlotte, the Panthers are the big team,” Hough defensive back Samari Matthews said. “Being able to play in that stadium is on the bucket list.”
The game features several of the area’s top college recruits as well, including Grimsley QB Faizon Brandon, a Tennessee commit, and South Pointe safety J’Zavien Currence, who is committed to the Gamecocks.
“It’s the biggest stage I want to be at,” Currence said. “To get on that field, knowing I aspire to be there, that’s the goal.”
Panthers head coach Dave Canales performed the honorary coin toss. West Charlotte and Hough won the right to be the home teams.
Tickets for the event are $8. One ticket is good for both games.
