Locally heavy rounds of rain today, more to come this week

Update: 10 p.m. The rumble of thunder and rain continues for southern Clay, central St. Johns and eastern Putnam counties. The leftover instability is weakening and will allow these storms to wind down after 11 p.m. Many areas, both north and south of the State line received 2 – 3 inches of rain today.

Rinse and repeat. Scattered showers with thunderstorms, some locally heavy, will continue through Mother’s Day. There is a slight chance of showers and storms through noon with the coverage and rain chances increasing after 2 p.m.

Current rainfall estimates for the next 5 – 7 days will average around 3 – 5 inches for inland areas, 4 – 8 inches for coastal counties.

Tonight: Weakening showers with thunderstorms through around 11 p.m.

Tonight: Storms end before sunset, stray showers will fade later in the evening.

Thursday: Another hot afternoon with scattered showers and storms, some locally heavy. Morning lows in the 60s to low 70s. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s to low 90s inland, 80s along the beaches. Rain chances will average 70-90 percent, most developing after 2 p.m. Wind: SE 5-10 mph.

Looking ahead: The unsettled pattern continues Friday and through Mother’s Day weekend.
