The son of a Panthers legend is an undrafted free agent.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — While first-round pick Tetairoa McMillan may be the headliner of this year’s Carolina Panthers rookie minicamp, there’s no doubt what the best storyline is.
That would be Muhsin Muhammad III.
He shares a name and a position with his father, who is in the franchise’s Hall of Honor as one of the best players in Panthers history.
The elder Muhammad played most of his 14-year NFL career with the Panthers and scored 62 of his 67-career receiving touchdowns in Black and Blue.
His son remembers being on the practice field as a kid, goofing off, and on Friday, he practiced on it as a member of the team.
“For the moment to come back full circle, to be able to play in my hometown where I grew up, it’s special,” Muhammad III said.
The younger Muhammad starred locally at Myers Park High School before playing collegiately at Texas A&M. He was undrafted and will have to fight for a spot for the remainder of the offseason workouts.
“I’m 30 minutes up the road,” he said. “Just being able to spend time with my family and be home playing the sport I love, I’m enjoying it.”
