This month, AES Indiana will hold two sessions for community members to ask questions and hear advice on how to reduce their summertime energy use.
Residents will have an opportunity to talk to a home auditor about how to make their home more energy efficient. Utility bills are typically higher in the summer because of how much energy is required to cool a home.
To reduce energy use and save money, AES suggests using ventilation instead of air conditioning to cool the home. Opening windows and creating a cross breeze or using fans is the least expensive and most energy efficient way to cool your home, according to the utility.
AES also discourages setting the thermostat lower than you want it. That won’t get your house cooler faster, but it will require your system to run longer than necessary. And don’t forget to change your air filter — a clean cooling unit is more efficient.
Residents can explore more hot weather tips and resources on the AES Indiana website.
