“It’s pretty amazing to see how far we’ve come,” said Michelle Weisman, director of visual design at Chair King Backyard Store and granddaughter of the company’s founder. “As a kid, I was playing around in the furniture and helping in the office. Now it’s come full circle.”
The evolution of outdoor furniture materials reflects significant technological advances since Chair King’s founding. While traditional rattan and wrought iron dominated the market decades ago, today’s offerings include cast aluminum, extruded aluminum, and innovative polymer materials designed to withstand Houston’s severe weather conditions.
“Houston experiences quite different weather events, from hurricanes to tornadoes,” Weisman explained. “Many people gravitate toward heavier furniture to ensure it stays in place during storms.”
