One of the most accomplished female athletes in Colorado history is buying into the state’s National Women’s Soccer League future. Denver NWSL announced Tuesday morning that Mikaela Shiffrin, the most decorated alpine skier of all time, joined the club’s ownership group led by its governor, Rob Cohen. To breathless media coverage, a company called Colossal Biosciences now claims to have produced three genetically engineered pups of the long-extinct dire wolf. Scientific criticism followed fast. Cupertino has had six city managers in less than a decade, and officials just placed its top executive on leave. The Cupertino City Council voted 3-2 in closed session to put City Manager Pamela Wu on paid leave Friday so it can conduct a “fair internal review process to move forward in a constructive and focused manner,” according to a news release.
