Basketball season is over for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks. But like so many Mavs fans, I’m still deeply frustrated personally by the trade of Luka Doncic. And as a former mayor and a business leader in our city, I know it is going to keep hurting because it came at an enormous long-term cost to Dallas. Cities are more than a collection of roads and buildings; the success of a city is driven by the intangibles … the pride of its people, its competitiveness and its image in greater society. Like all of you, I have…

Mary Jung would like you to believe she didn’t have this discussion. At least not until the greatest Mother’s Day gift of her life becomes a reality this weekend.“I may not be superstitious,” Mary, a San Antonio elementary school PE teacher, said last week between helping with STAAR testing. “But I‘m a little stitious”It might be testing fate too much to be too cavalier about what it would mean to see her two boys, Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung and Detroit third baseman Jace Jung, younger by 2 ½ years, meet as major leaguers. On Mother’s Day weekend. Nope. Absolutely…

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — The Dallas Stars created a mismatch in Game 1 that Winnipeg simply had no answer for.Stars coach Pete DeBoer double-shifted top-line forward Mikko Rantanen, so he played minutes with both Roope Hintz and Mikael Granlund on the first line and with Sam Steel and Evgenii Dadonov on the fourth line. Both of Rantanen’s 5-on-5 goals in his second-period hat trick came while playing on the fourth line. His first was after an initial shot by Dadonov. His second was a deflection off a Thomas Harley shot, with his fellow forwards causing chaos in front of the net. “That…
AUSTIN – The Texas House gave initial approval to a bill Thursday that would ban citizens of China, Iran, North Korea and Russia from owning properties in Texas, moving the state one step closer to creating barriers for property ownership to people from countries deemed hostile. On a largely partisan vote of 85-60, the House approved the bill, making it the latest Republican-led policy once considered too extreme for the House now on a direct path to becoming law as the chamber shifts further to the right.“We must not allow oppressive regimes who actively seek to do us harm to seize…
COPPELL — With no outs in the top of the third Thursday night, Melissa left fielder Paisley Needham stepped to the plate, having just watched teammate Izzy Gonzales put her team in the record book.Gonzales crushed a monstrous home run over the high wall in center field that is 215 feet away to give Melissa a share of the national record for most home runs in a season. Needham one-upped her, however, giving Melissa the national record all by itself.Needham followed Gonzales’ solo home run with one of her own, blasting a line drive over the wall in left field…

The ground beneath Texas’ urban areas, including Dallas and Fort Worth, is sinking at a quicker pace than other comparatively large cities, according to a new study. In a study published on Thursday by Nature Cities, researchers examined 28 of the nation’s most populous cities.
