A restaurant and tavern north of Boston known for its American cuisine and live music has shut down after 30 years.
Palmer’s Restaurant & Tavern in Andover is no longer open, according to a message on the restaurant’s website.
“After 30 wonderful years of serving this incredible community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the permanent closure of Palmer’s Restaurant,” the message read. “This decision was not made lightly.”
It continued, “Over the years, we’ve had the absolute honor of sharing countless meals, celebrations, laughs, and stories with all of you. Many of you have become more than customers — you’ve become dear friends and a part of our extended family. We are so proud of the memories we’ve created together and will forever cherish the moments, milestones, and the people that made Palmer’s what it was.”
While it is unclear exactly when the restaurant closed, Palmer’s shared the same message in an Instagram post Wednesday. Loyal patrons expressed their devastation over the restaurant’s closure in the comments section of the post.
“This is terrible news and I was planning to be there tomorrow night,” one comment reads. “This is such a huge loss to Andover! I have just had such good times here in the last couple weeks. I am so sad.”
Another user commented, “You were my go to! Great bands, food and bartenders.”
Palmer’s Restaurant originally opened as a small eatery in Swampscott in 1988, the business’ Yelp page indicates.
Palmer’s mostly served classic American fare including chicken tenders, burgers, steak and more. Its first-floor pub featured local musicians several days a week as well.
The address for the now-closed Palmer’s Restaurant & Tavern is 18 Elm St., Andover.
