COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A heartfelt tribute to beloved meteorologist Chris Bradley, who passed away seven years ago, took place Thursday at the King Avenue United Methodist Church. The event, a blood drive, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation in Bradley’s memory.
“Chris shone just a bright light and he really wanted something good to come out of his diagnosis,” said Jason Bradley-Krauss, Chris’s husband.
Bradley-Krauss recalled the frequent need for blood products during Chris’s battle with acute myeloid leukemia. “When Chris was ill, he needed blood products so frequently. I remember the first time it happened. We were just so shocked, but it became commonplace,” he said.
The family has partnered with Versiti Blood Center of Ohio to collect blood for the Wexner Medical Center, where Chris received weekly blood platelets during his cancer fight.
“If Chris were alive, this is the work he would be doing,” Bradley-Krauss said. “We want to envision a world free from the scourge of blood cancer and of cancer in general. The work that’s being done. The research around blood cancer is foundational to the work that needs to be done for other forms of cancer.”
The family expressed gratitude for the support and the opportunity to help others. Those interested in donating blood can do so on Friday at the OSU Biomedical Research Tower.
