A 28-year-old Cape Cod man was killed Thursday after his motorcycle collided at a high speed with a pickup truck, authorities said.
Keean Laakso, of South Yarmouth, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, at the intersection of Station Avenue and Wood Road in South Yarmouth, where police said he hit the truck before striking a granite mailbox post.
Members of the Yarmouth police and fire departments responded to the intersection just after 4 p.m. on Thursday after receiving calls for a single-vehicle motorcycle crash into a mailbox.
Upon arriving, officers found Laakso gravely injured and learned that a pickup truck had also been involved in the collision, the Yarmouth Police Department said in a statement.
Yarmouth firefighters were unable to save Laakso and pronounced him dead at the crash scene, the statement said.
Based on an initial investigation, police said the pickup truck was midway through the intersection of Wood Road when Laakso, traveling south on Station Avenue at “a high speed,” collided with it, sending his motorcycle into the nearby mailbox post.
The pickup truck driver remained at the crash scene and has not been charged with a crime, police said.
The police department is investigating the crash alongside the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The department urged anyone with information on the collision to contact investigators at 508-775-0445.
