The visiting team found the net four times. Charlotte only found it once.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC was hoping for a home win Saturday after a recent skid of losses. Earlier this week, the black and blue fell on the road to Orlando City 3-1. Last weekend, Nashville SC beat them 2-1.
But that win didn’t happen. In fact, this loss – against Chicago Fire FC – was worse.
Chicago striker Jonathan Bamba got an assist from attacking midfielder Brian Gutiérrez to find the net at the 42-minute mark. Halftime came and went, with Gutiérrez finding the net himself 60 minutes in.
Three minutes later, striker Philip Zinckernagel scored with help from left-back Andrew Gutman, giving Chicago Fire a strong lead against Charlotte. Patrick Agyemang, a striker for the black and blue, found the net at the 70-minute mark with help from midfielder Eryk Williamson.
That would be Charlotte’s first, and only, goal of the match. And Chicago wasn’t done.
The visitors from the Windy City were granted a penalty kick, and Gutiérrez again found the net. As the clock ticked on, Charlotte FC couldn’t muster a response.
Final score at Bank of America Stadium: Chicago Fire FC with four goals, Charlotte FC with just one. Charlotte again loses three MLS standing points with the loss.
Charlotte FC has another Wednesday match on May 21. The team will take D.C. United in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. The black and blue are back home next Saturday, May 24, to take on Columbus Crew. Kickoff is again at 7:30, with the Soccer for All celebration as part of the theme.
