It wasn’t music to the black and blue’s ears Saturday night.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Fresh off an advancement in the U.S. Open Cup, Charlotte FC looked to make some music against Nashville SC Saturday as part of a stretch of road matches.
It would take a while for this song to be composed, however. Neither team found the net in the first 45 minutes, leaving them scoreless at the half.
Then things started to sing in the back half — initially for the black and blue. Charlotte midfielder Liel Abada found the net at 48 minutes in with an assist from fellow midfielder Brandt Bronico.
Nashville struck its own chord quickly, however, as striker Hany Mukhtar leveled the score just a minute later, assisted by winger Alex Muyl. Not even five minutes later, midfielder Jacob Shaffelburg kicked another goal in for Nashville with an assist from right-back Andy Najar, making the score 2-1 for Nashville.
The black and blue couldn’t harmonize for another goal or two, leaving Music City with a 2-1 loss and three less points in the MLS standings.
Charlotte stays on the road for a match on Wednesday, May 14, against Orlando City SC. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The black and blue are back home next Saturday, May 17, taking on Chicago Fire FC. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. as usual, and Daimler Truck North America is teaming up with Charlotte FC for a special t-shirt giveaway. The first fans to get to Bank of America Stadium will get the limited-edition party shirt.
Charlotte is back on the road after that for the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday, May 21. They take on D.C. United, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
