Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a teen on multiple weapons charges after discovering guns in a car and home, officials said.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 16-year-old is facing multiple weapons charges following an investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Juvenile Accountability & Diversion Empowerment (JADE) Unit.
According to police officials, JADE Unit officers were conducting surveillance on April 22 on a teen suspected of illegal firearm possession. Officers observed the teen leaving a residence and entering a car. Aware that the teen did not possess a valid driver’s license, officers initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, officers said they spotted a gun inside the vehicle that matched the description of a weapon the teen was previously known to have. The discovery prompted further investigation, leading to a search warrant for the teen’s house.
Police found an additional handgun, a pistol brace, and multiple handgun magazines, police reported.
The teen was arrested and charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, two counts of Possession of a Handgun by Minor, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
The teen’s guardian faces charges of Failure to Secure a Firearm.
