Satin Med Spa in SouthPark shut down without warning, citing a “devastating outside situation.”
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Customers of a popular medical spa in Charlotte’s SouthPark area discovered Friday that the business had permanently closed when they arrived for scheduled appointments, finding only a sign on the door and no possibility of refunds for prepaid services.
Satin Med Spa announced its immediate closure through a posted notice and email to clients, citing an “unexpected and devastating outside situation” that “escalated beyond our control.” The business provided no refunds for customers who had prepaid for treatments, some losing thousands of dollars.
“I’ve been coming here for several years,” said one longtime customer, who discovered the closure upon arriving for her appointment.
The abrupt shutdown has left customers scrambling to recover money paid in advance for cosmetic treatments and packages. One customer said she was out approximately $2,400 for a prepaid treatment plan.
“This is ridiculous,” another person said. “This is not a way to run a business.”
The closure notice posted on the spa’s door, along with an email sent to clients, apologized for the inconvenience but stated clearly that no refunds would be provided for prepaid services or packages. The communication did not specify the nature of the “outside situation” that forced the closure.
“The treatment I have, I prepaid, and it was kind of costly,” one customer explained, describing the $2,400 loss she now faces.
Customers are exploring various options to recover their money, including disputing credit card charges and potentially pursuing small claims court cases.
“It’s not just, you know, a couple of dollars, it’s a lot of money,” one customer said. “I’m going to dispute the charge, and I will also, I guess, maybe have to go to small claims court.”
The medical spa, which had operated in the Queen City for several years and built a substantial client base, provided no advance warning of the closure to customers. Many clients had appointments scheduled weeks or months in advance.
WCNC Charlotte reached out to Satin Med Spa for additional information about the closure, but has not received a response.
