FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — An early morning shooting at an apartment complex in Federal Way has left an 18-year-old dead and an 11-year-old child injured.

Federal Way police officers arrived at the scene to find the 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers administered first aid until medics arrived, but despite their efforts, the victim died from his injuries

During the investigation, officers discovered that a stray bullet had struck an 11-year-old child sleeping in a neighboring apartment. The child was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence situation involving the victim and his ex-girlfriend. An altercation between the two reportedly led to the shooting.

The suspect, who fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, is known to the victim, and there is no known threat to the public.

Federal Way detectives are actively investigating the incident and searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Federal Way Police Department at 253-835-6799.
