Columbus, Ohio (WSYX) — The Columbus Crew is gearing up for a crucial week, starting with a road match against CF Montréal tonight before the first “Hell Is Real” match of the season when they host FC Cincinnati this Saturday.
Currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference, the Crew boasts a 7-1-4 record, including an impressive 3-0-2 on the road this season. After a narrow 1-0 home loss to Inter Miami, the Crew has rebounded with a three-game unbeaten streak.
CF Montréal, meanwhile, is coming off its first MLS win under interim head coach Marco Donadel, having secured a 1-0 victory over New York City FC at Yankee Stadium last Saturday. Earlier this season, the Crew defeated Montréal 2-1 in Columbus on April 5.
Despite CF Montréal’s 15th place standing in the Eastern Conference, Dax McCarty, a former MLS All-Star and current MLS Season Pass studio analyst, emphasized the importance of tonight’s match for the Crew’s pursuit of the Supporters’ Shield.
“You can’t go into any game expecting and thinking to win, not even this game against CF Montreal. But if you’re the Columbus Crew and you are going for the Supporters Shield, then regardless of what’s coming in the future with Hell is Real, you have to look at this game against Montreal and take this to be three points,” said McCarty.
The game kicks off tonight at 6:30 p.m. and can be seen on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
